The significance of a Footstool

Many chairs nowadays come with a reclining feature which includes an integral footstool. But not everyone wants such a large piece of living room furniture and so a separate footstool can come in really handy.
Footstools come in all sizes, from a small one which can easily stash under or behind any other piece of living room furniture to a large one which is permanently placed in the middle of the floor, possibly between two settees. Sometimes they come as a companion piece to a settee, particularly the sort that are curved, or designed to go in a corner.
When you have been on your feet all day it is really relaxing to be able to literally put your feet up on a footstool, as well as being much better for you. If you have been sitting at a desk all day and then sit all evening with your feet on the floor, it can be really bad for your health, as it puts a great strain on the blood supply to your feet and ankles.
Living room furniture has to be functional these days and a footstool in an ottoman style can be very useful, for popping odd bits and pieces into when unexpected visitors arrive. No one would suspect that the neat footstool which they are using actually has all of the chocolate wrappers and old magazines which were lying around five minutes before, neatly stashed inside.
